Where to Eat in Daegu, Korea

Last updated: 22 September 2026

Daegu is Korea's fourth-largest city and the one visitors most often skip. Its food is worth the stop. This is a working list of places around the centre — Samdeok-dong, Dongseong-ro, Banwoldang and Beomeo-dong — grouped by neighbourhood, with what each serves and a map link.

How this list was made

The first three entries are places this site covers across its Daegu guides; Restaurant Gasik is run by this site's owner, and says so where it appears. Every other entry comes from Naver Local search results for the neighbourhood, sorted by review count on 18 September 2026. Nobody on this site has visited every place listed, so there are no ratings here and no claims about how the food tastes. Names, categories and addresses are as Naver lists them. Hours change; check the map link before you go.

Namseong-ro and Samdeok-dong: three places

A Korean soup house, a Western restaurant that takes bookings, and a bar, all within walking distance of Banwoldang station or in Samdeok-dong.

Background reading from this site: Daegu's ten official dishes, makchang versus gopchang, haejangguk versus yukgaejang, galbitang versus seolleongtang, eating near The Hyundai Daegu, Daegu at night, the modern history alley walk, Pyongyang naengmyeon versus mul naengmyeon, napjak mandu, Daegu jjim-galbi, Seomun Market food, getting in from Dongdaegu station and date ideas.

Samdeok-dong

The quieter streets east of the main shopping drag. Small restaurants and bars in converted houses; this is where the city's independent places cluster.

Dongseong-ro and Jongno

The main pedestrian shopping district and the streets west of it toward the old town. Busy, late-opening, and where the chains and the queues are.

Gukbap — Daegu's soup-and-rice

Daegu's signature is ttaro-gukbap: a spicy beef soup served with the rice in a separate bowl (ttaro means separately). These are the central-district gukbap houses with the most Naver reviews.

Cafés and bakeries

Beomeo-dong (Suseong-gu)

East of the centre, across the river. Suseong-gu is the residential and office district; the restaurants here are larger and more family-oriented.

Makchang — the Daegu dish

If Daegu has one dish visitors are told to try, it is makchang: grilled pork or beef intestine, charred at the table and eaten with a soybean dipping sauce. The chain with the most Naver reviews across the city is 연막창; its branches, so you can pick the nearest:
